ROTH + WEBER receives TOP 100 award for the second time

The company ROTH + WEBER GmbH, based in Niederdreisbach, has made it into the TOP 100 in the 26th year of the innovation competition for the second time. It will receive its award on 28 June from competition mentor Ranga Yogeshwar, TOP 100 coordinator Professor Nikolaus Franke and compamedia at Frankfurt’s Jahrhunderthalle events venue. TOP 100 uses a rigorous process of analysis to assess how SMEs manage innovation. ROTH + WEBER, which has 166 employees, particularly impressed the independent panel of judges with its successful innovations. This is the second time the company has joined this elite group.

Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe will present metallized inkjet paper for extraordinary labels

With the launch of brand-new jetscript METAL VPG 1018, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper is bringing something absolutely unique to the market: a metallic-silver-gloss inkjet paper, developed for water-based inkjet printing and particularly suitable for self-adhesive label applications. What’s so special about this is that metallic glossy inkjet labels were previously only possible using a metallic film. Jetscript METAL VPG 1018, however, is a pure fibre-based paper product with a metallic mirror finish and a transparent, microporous inkjet coating for excellent printing performance.

Xeikon consolidates its operations in Belgium

Established in 1988, Xeikon started the revolution in digital full colour printing out of a former Agfa production site in Mortsel, near Antwerp in Belgium. There, yet unknown to the outside world, it built the very first DCP-1 machine that was to be launched at Ipex 1993. In 2002, it moved its headquarters – including R&D, manufacturing and innovation center – from Mortsel to a brand new building in Lier, Belgium. Since 2008, the company’s head office is based in Eede, the Netherlands, just across the northern Belgian border.

Digital print increases market share to 21.1% displacing analogue print market

The global print market is shrinking in volume but growing in value over the period 2014–24. The average value of print increase will slightly over the ten-year period, as a result of changes in the product mix and the print processes employed. Smithers Pira’s latest market report, The Future of Digital vs Offset Printing to 2024 shows the global output measured in billions of A4 prints was 49,665 in 2019, to remain static through to 2024. In value terms, print output grows from $808.3 billion in 2019 to $862.7 billion in 2024 – a CAGR of 1.3%.

North American paper producer eases into the future with ABB digital solutions

Port Townsend Paper Company (PTPC) moves forward with ABB Ability™ Advanced Digital Services. PTPC, a North American producer of pulp and paper products, began an evolution path in April 2018 for its mill in Port Townsend, Washington, USA. The mill’s distributed control system (DCS), which was nearing the end of its lifecycle, started a phased evolution upgrade. As a result, the mill will be able to continue operations and avoid a weeks-long shutdown while ABB performs services and upgrades during planned downtime.
